Three people were killed and two others injured in an accident involving a pirate taxi on the Rusape-Wedza Highway on Sunday evening.
According to police spokesperson Inspector Norbert Muzondo, the accident occurred when the speeding Toyota Wish veered off the road near the 9 kilometer peg. The driver lost control and the vehicle overturned twice before coming to rest on its wheels.
A 19-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter were killed instantly in the crash. The woman’s husband is in critical condition at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital. Another passenger died after arriving at Rusape General Hospital. Two other passengers were treated for injuries and later discharged.
Speeding is blamed for causing the deadly crash. Inspector Muzondo urged all drivers to be cautious on the roads, especially at night, and adhere strictly to traffic rules to avoid tragic loss of life.
The accident comes barely a week after another Honda Fit vehicle crashed a few kilometers from the latest accident scene, claiming two lives.
