In a landmark case, two men have been found guilty by the High Court for the ritual murder of a seven-year-old boy in Murehwa, Zimbabwe in 2020. Tafadzwa Shamba was convicted of masterminding the murder, while Tapiwa Makore Snr was found guilty of being an accomplice to the killing.
The State proved that the two men drugged, killed, and mutilated the boy for ritual purposes to boost Makore’s cabbage business. The murder was premeditated, and the two men were supposed to earn US$1,500 from the ritual killing.
Shamba and Makore Snr were ordered to file mitigation on their behalf by July 6th, and the court will sentence them on July 12th.
The boy’s mother, Linda Munyori, expressed relief that the court found them guilty and hopes they will receive the punishment they deserve.
